Maui walkers will go around the clock to fight cancer during the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Central and South Maui.
Teams will gather at War Memorial Soccer Field for an overnight relay from 6 p.m. June 29 until 6 a.m. June 30.
The relay will open as anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer walks or uses a wheelchair completes the first lap.
Highlighting the evening is the luminaria ceremony to take place after dark to honor cancer survivors and to remember those lost to the disease. Luminaria line the track and are left burning throughout the night to remind participants of the importance of their efforts.
"Relay For Life is as much an awareness-raiser about the progress against cancer as it is a fundraiser," said Monica Erice, event chairperson.
The funds raised will fund educational programs, research, advocacy and services to patients.
There is still time to form a team or become involved in Relay For Life, according to event organizers. Information is available from the Relay For Life of Central and South Maui website, www.relayforlife.org/centralmauihi, or by calling the local American Cancer Society office at 244-5554.
