FUN-FILLED FOURTH . . . Front Street will be closed to traffic from 4 to 9:30 tonight for the annual fireworks show. Bands will play in the park next to the library, and there will be random magicians and other performing artists.
"In addition to our new prime-rib sandwich and shrimp and grits, we will be serving barbecue ribs with French fries and cole slaw, says Becky Lennon, owner of Pioneer Inn on Front Street.
"For the people that don't want to dine in our restaurant, the Sunrise Rotary Club will serve soft drinks and Pioneer Inn chili dogs to eat on the library lawn while they listen to the bands and watch fireworks."
This historic hotel will be right in the thick of July 4th happenings tonight on Front Street in Lahaina with crowd-pleasing fare.

Kimo's will also be a prime viewing spot, as the fireworks will be lit from an offshore barge. Food Network magazine tracked down the top frozen desserts in North America and it rates sister restaurants Kimo's and Duke's as leading the wave in Hawaii.
"Hawaii is home to killer waves and macadamia nuts, and this slice of Hula pie is a combination of the two; a behemoth wavelike mass of macadamia nut ice cream with chocolate cookie crust and hot fudge."
Kimo's in Lahaina also recently installed the Blizzard Beer System, in which beer is kept icy cold at 29 degrees, says Jack Starr, assistant general manager. "We have 10 fun, handcrafted beers on draught."

Instead of fireworks, Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas will have a Hawaiian flower drop via helicopter at 1 p.m. today and lucky attendees may win prizes if they find roses. Come early for the watermelon eating contest a noon; and hang around for the barbecue in the Pailolo restaurant with half rack of spicy mango ribs, grilled corn and cole slaw for $21 per plate. The hotel will also have an Independence Day Carnival with deejay, dunking booth, face painting, shave ice and popcorn.

Alan Wong's Amasia at Grand Wailea is hopping with happy hour 5 to 6.30 p.m. daily and it still offers kamaaina discounts.
"Starting this month, we will have live entertainment to accompany happy hour each evening," says GMNicholas Spurgeon.
The owners of Fabiani's Wailea, the upcoming sister restaurant of the Kihei original, plan to open by Aug. 1 in Wailea Gateway shopping center.
"Contrary to popular belief, it will not just be to-go food," says partner Mike O'Dwyer, who also operates Mulligan's on the Blue in Wailea. "We're very proud to bring in Matt Muller, a CIA-trained chef from New York City's Pulinos and Morandi restaurants.
CIA, in this instance, by the way, means Culinary Institute of America, not Central Intelligence Agency. Fabiani's Wailea will feature 55 seats in the dining room and 14 stools at the beautiful koa-wood bar.

Lahaina Pineapple Festival is 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday and there will be plenty of ono food, crafts and fireworks along with local entertainment. Expeditions' last ferry from Manele to Lahaina will be at 10 p.m.
