Lahainaluna High School is making preparations for the new school year with payment of fees, pickup of class schedules and preparing photo IDs, which will take place in Hale Pa'ina on Tuesday and July 17.
Tuesday's event is for freshmen, from 9 to 11 a.m., and sophomores, from 1 to 3 p.m. Juniors will be expected between 9 and 11 a.m. July 17, while seniors are scheduled between 1 and 3 p.m. that day.
The mandatory fee for grades 9, 10 and 11 is $25, which includes student government and class dues and a postage fee for handling of quarterly mailings. For seniors, the fee is $30, which includes a $5 graduation fee. Cap, gown and graduation accessories will be paid for when orders are placed in November.
Optional fees for all grades include $25 for an MIL Athletic Pass (mandatory for all athletes and boarders); $50 for a 2014 "Ka Lama" yearbook; and $5 for a year's subscription to the school newspaper, Ka Leo Luna.
Deposits for Meal Track Accounts will be accepted separately in the school's main office
Forms for student parking and student lockers will be available on both days, and applications for bus passes will be accepted.
Appropriate attire must be worn for school ID photos.
Representatives from the Parent Teacher Student Association will be on hand to accept annual dues, which are paid separately from school dues. They will also share information about the Project Graduation post-commencement event for the Class of 2014.
All payments must be made in cash, certified bank checks or money orders.
The school has also schedule orientations for new students. The two-day freshman orientation will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 5 and 6 in Hale Pa'ina. Orientation for transfer students in grades 10-12 will be from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 6 in the old cafeteria.
The first full day of classes for all students will be Aug. 7. Students should report to their assigned Po'okela (advisory) groups by 7:55 a.m. Dismissal will be at 1:15 p.m.
* Seniors who haven't scheduled their yearbook photo appointments should call Nagamine Photo Studio at 244-3636. All photos need to be completed by the end of July.
* Incoming transfer students must make an appointment with school registrar Barbie Otomo for school enrollment. A copy of the previous school's transcript is required from all transfers. Students transferring from another Hawaii school should also bring a release packet when enrolling. Students from a school outside of Hawaii must present a TB clearance and physical exam report taken within the last 12 months, immunization shot records, birth certificate and a transcript or a year-end report from their previous school.
