State champs return home

Central won four straight games at Hans L’Orange Park on Oahu to claim the title. After an 8-3 loss to Hilo in Friday’s opener, Maui beat Kailua 11-1 in five innings on Saturday, then defeated Pearl City 10-2 on Sunday before two wins over Hilo on Monday, 14-7 and 18-6. In the final game,Orion Miyasato-Farias had a pair of doubles among his three hits, drove in four runs and scored four times, Nevan Watanabe had three hits and four RBIs and Travis Delima had four hits, including a double and triple, and scored four runs. Maui advanced to the West Regional, scheduled for July 31-Aug. 7 in Vancouver, Wash. — the winner of that tournament earns a berth in the Junior League World Series, set for Aug. 11-17 in Taylor, Mich.
