1988 - Maui has the first 50-book readers in the statewide Children's Summer Reading Program 1988. Marissa Cerizo, Christy Cerizo and Reuben Sumabat were honored for the achievement at ceremonies held Thursday at the Kahului Library. The children all attend at St. Anthony School.

2003 - State wildlife biologist Fern Duvall said the large cat believed to have been prowling a gulch in Olinda may have moved downhill toward Makawao. "The cat was there. We had tracks, and we had signs. And we had a lot of interference," he said. The state wildlife team has pulled the four traps that had been set up.
