On Sunday July 29, 2013, Joyful passed into eternal bliss, in her home in Kula. She was born as Nancy Louise Jewett August 14, 1929 in NY, NY, to Florence Bitner Jewett and Phelps Dodge Jewett. In 1994, she changed her name to the single word Joyful to reflect her inner self in her name. She was deeply interested in natural foods and meditation. She was a teacher and a healer who spent most of her life seeking spiritual enlightenment. She lived in Southern California and graduated from Westlake School for Girls. But she loved Maui and has mostly lived there over the last two decades. She was preceded in death by her two sons, James Montgomery and Hugh Montgomery, and her beloved Pomeranian, Cuddles.She leaves family behind, a sister and brother-in-law, Helen-Jeanne and Leonard Munter; a brother Phelps (Buz) Jewett; three nieces and three nephews; and nine great nieces and two great nephews.Her ashes will be scattered in Maui as were the ashes of her two sons.
