Hawaiian Moonlight concert on Saturday
George Kahumoku Jr. and Gabe Goebbert will be the featured performers at Maui Historical Society's Hawaiian Moonlight concert at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Admission is $25, or $20 for Maui Historical Society members. Children 12 and younger will be admitted free with a paid adult admission.
Coolers will be allowed. Soda and water will be available for purchase. Blankets and low-back beach chairs will be permitted. Limited seating will be available for kupuna.
The monthly concert series will take place on the grounds of the Bailey House Museum at 2375A Main St. in Wailuku.

Actor, singer to speak at Rotary meeting
The Rotary Club of Kihei-Wailea will host tenor Jim Price, lead actor and singer in the upcoming production of "Les Miserables" at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.
The noon meeting will take place at Mulligans on the Blue on Aug. 21. The buffet lunch costs $16.
Maui Academy of Performing Arts Board President Vinnie Linares will join Price to speak about MAPA and give a live sample of "Les Miserables."

The Kahului School Community Council will hold its monthly meeting beginning at 4:45 p.m. today in the school library.

Maui Cattle Co. topic of presentation
Alex Franco, manager of Maui Cattle Co., will speak at the Kiwanis Club of Maui's noon meeting Thursday at Cary & Eddie's Hideaway in Kahului.
He will speak on the operations of the Maui Cattle Co.
The meeting is open to the public, and visitors are welcome. Lunch is $12.

Reading of 'Les Miserables' offered
"Discovering the Classics: Les Miserables" will be presented at Kihei Public Library at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the children's section.
Papa Lopaka (Robert DeVinck) will conduct a dramatic reading of the "Classics Illustrated" comic book "Les Miserables" by Victor Hugo. There will be a brief discussion, a question-and-answer session, and Lopaka will encourage children to read the original book.
This free one-hour program is recommended for ages 6 and older and will include light snacks and refreshments provided by the Kay A. Edwards Memorial Fund. Lopaka is a writer, English literature scholar and longtime reader of classic books.
All children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Contact the library as soon as possible if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed for these programs.

Two speakers to present at showcase
Nicole Fisher, of Skywriting by Nico, will speak on social media for business at the Maui Mompreneur Showcase on Saturday in the Maui Beach Hotel Elleair Ballroom.
The 9 a.m to 1 p.m. showcase of mom-owned businesses is open to the public. Admission is free.
Fisher will present at 10 a.m., along with Ed Gazmen, sales and marketing consultant, who will speak on, "What Really Works? Effective Marketing Strategies."

Death Tracks on Internet radio Sundays
Doorway Into Light, a Maui nonprofit organization in the fields of death and dying, is hosting a new Internet radio show titled Death Tracks. It can be heard at 6 a.m. on Sunday mornings on intentionradio.com.
The show intends to cultivate, stimulate and elevate our conversations on aging, dying and death, according to a news release.
It will include discussions, a call-in segment for listeners to ask questions and add comments, and some music tracks.

Kaitlin Kim receives academic award
Kaitlin Kim, a student at Saint Anthony Junior-Senior High School and resident of Kahului, was named the 2013 recipient of the Saint Michael's College Book Award for Academic Achievement with a Social Conscience.
The award recognizes students who demonstrate a commitment to leadership in volunteer service and academic achievement. Saint Michael's College is located in Burlington, Vt.
Award recipients, named at schools throughout the country, are high school juniors who are inductees of the National Honor Society or an equivalent school-sponsored honors organization.
They must demonstrate a commitment to service activities in high school or community organizations, taking leadership roles in these activities.
