Area to be without water for 4 hours
A Department of Water Supply crew will do preventive maintenance on a Kahului water main from 9 a.m. to around 1 p.m. Friday, leaving nearby residents without water, the department said Wednesday.
Affected residents include those on Holua Drive from Kea Street to the south intersection of Lalani Circle; Naholo Circle from Holua Drive to Ikai Street; and Lalani Circle from Holua Drive to Puolo Place.
Traffic will not be affected, officials said, but they advised motorists to be cautious.
When water service returns Friday afternoon, residents should flush their waterlines for a short time to ensure no sediment has accumulated in their water. Residents should store water for their needs during the outage.
The water department's 24-hour service phone number is 270-7633.
Man hit with bat during fish theft
A Paia man was arrested after hitting another man with a baseball bat during a confrontation Wednesday morning at Paia Bay, police said.
The assault was reported around 11 a.m. after a Kahului man had placed fish he had caught in a bucket in the back of his truck, said Lt. Jayson Rego of the Criminal Investigation Division. When the Paia man went to the back of the truck and appeared to be taking the fish, the Kahului man asked what the Paia man was doing, and they got into a confrontation, Rego said.
The Paia man grabbed a baseball bat and hit the other man on the back, he said. The victim grabbed a spear but didn't use it on the other man, Rego added. The two men fought, with the victim suffering injuries that weren't life-threatening.
An investigation was continuing.
Tsutsui on national policy committee
Lt. Gov. Shan Tsutsui has been appointed by the National Lieutenant Governors Association to serve on a national policy committee.
The International Committee provides direction on opportunities for global engagement by the states' second-in-command.
"It is an honor being appointed to an important committee, such as the International Committee for the NLGA. Because Hawaii serves as a gateway between Asia and the Pacific, being appointed to this committee is a natural fit," Tsutsui said.
The NLGA is the professional association providing research and issue exchange opportunities to the officeholders first in line of succession to the governor in all 50 states and the U.S. territories.
