Molokai Ranch will host the Molokai Heritage Rodeo on Nov. 2 in honor of paniolo Uncle Jimmy Duvauchelle.
The event will begin at 9 a.m. at the Molokai Ranch Rodeo Arena in Maunaloa. The event is open to the public and admission is free.
The event will feature traditional rodeo activities like double mugging, barrel racing and team roping, as well as cultural demonstrations, paniolo (cowboy) exhibits, live entertainment, Hawaiian healing and food booths.
During the event, the arena will also be dedicated to and renamed the Jimmy Duvauchelle Arena, in honor of his 50 years of working for Molokai Ranch, company officials said.
"He's such a big part of Molokai Ranch history. We found his original employment application in our files, and it was (filed) in 1966," Ranch Project Manager Nancy Schmicker said. "Uncle Jimmy is synonymous with Molokai Ranch."
Rodeo contestants will pay an entry fee and compete for trophy buckles and cash prizes. Interested contestants may call Rex Kamikana at (808) 552-2394.
