Two Maui men were named Mister Hawaii and Mister Pacific Ocean - the first Neighbor Island residents to capture state titles - at the 11th annual Mister Hawai'i & Hawaii's Most Beautiful Men Scholarship Competition Saturday on Oahu.
Ponia Matsumoto, Mister Valley Isle 2013, took the Mister Hawaii title, and Analu Mattos, Mister Maui Hawai'i 2013, brought home the Mister Pacific Ocean title at the event at the Neal Blaisdell Center during the 11th annual Hawai'i Woman Expo.
There were 22 contestants in the contest, 'Iolani Chun, Mister Maui executive director, said in a news release.
Analu Mattos (left) is the new Mister Pacific Ocean 2013, and Ponia Matsumoto is the New Mister Hawai‘i 2013. They won their titles Saturday at the Mister Hawai‘i & Hawaii’s Most Beautiful Men Scholarship Competition on Oahu.
Matsumoto, 19, of Waiehu is a culinary arts major at University of Hawaii Maui College and a runway model. The new Mister Hawaii is the son of Thom and Linda Matsumoto of Waiehu Heights and is a 2012 graduate of Baldwin High School.
For winning the title, Matsumoto received an $8,000 scholarship with Argosy University Hawaii.
Mattos, 21, of Waikapu is a professional Polynesian dancer for the Old Lahaina Luau. He is a Hawaiian studies major at the University of Hawaii Maui College and a business major with Argosy. He is the son of Kawika and Ka'o Mattos of Waikapu.
He won a $6,000 scholarship from Argosy for winning the title.
