Top honors for generosity

September 15, 2013
The Maui News

FIRST PHOTO: Maui Police Department officer James Terry waves from the roof of Walmart in Kahului on Saturday afternoon while taking part in the yearly Cop On Top event to raise funds for Special Olympics athletes. Also participating from the Maui Police Department this year were Sgt. Nick Krau and officers Nichole Comilang, Gershom Slonim and Jonathan Honda. Maui Special Olympics Regional Director Adrienne Laurion said the event raised at least $8,200, although donated coins had not yet been counted as of 7 p.m. Saturday. She said she expected to reach about $9,000, which would be short of the event's goal of raising $10,000. Nevertheless, "the community has been very generous," she said.
