MHS gearing up for 100-year celebration
Maui High School will present its Gala of the Century event from 3 to 7 p.m. Oct. 13 at the school campus in Kahului. The centennial celebration will feature food, entertainment, souvenirs, prizes and more.
Tickets are $35. Pupus, luau dinner, entertainment and one prize drawing entry are included in the ticket price. One hundred prizes will be given away.
The all-alumni entertainment line-up will feature: Sapphire and Friends, Dementia, Homestead, Maui Taiko, Kanoa of GoMega, Uluwehi Guerrero and Nuff Sedd.

Kidney support group announces meeting
Dr. Jay Lakkis, a nephrologist, will be the guest speaker at the support group meeting sponsored by the National Kidney Foundation of Hawaii and Hawaii Organ Transplant Support Group from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 10.
The meeting will take place at the Liberty Dialysis Conference Room, 105 Maui Lani Parkway in Wailuku.

Corporate strategies topic of talk today
Gordon Gillis, with Public Safety Solutions, will be guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Kihei Wailea noon meeting today at Mulligans on the Blue in Wailea.
Gillis has extensive experience in planning, designing and implementing corporate strategies to create transformational shifts and culture change, according to an announcement. He works with public, private, for-profit and nonprofit groups. Gillis will share his business knowledge regarding leadership, managing human resources, conflict resolution and more.
The cost for lunch is $16. The public is invited.
Mayeda has new position with nonprofit
The American Cancer Society has selected Anna Mayeda of Wailuku as its new senior representative of community engagement.
In this capacity, she will lead the integration of community engagement, health systems and corporate and distinguished partner activities, including the Hope Lodge Hawai'i campaign for Maui County and West Hawaii.
Mayeda has been with the American Cancer Society since 2002.
Designers wanted for living art exhibition
The Maui Association of Landscape Professionals is looking for entrants for the 4th annual ARTSCAPES "Living Art Exhibition" as par of the 18th annual Maui Lawn and Garden Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 9 at Maui Mall.
Exhibitors will create their designs within a 9-foot-by-7-foot-by-9-foot indoor space in one of the mall store fronts. Entries can include water features, moving parts, etc., and must be at least 50 percent plants.
Judges will award prize money for the top three entries, and members of the public will be invited to pick their favorite as well.
Star Wars Reads Day at Makawao library
Makawao Public Library will participate in the second annual Star Wars Reads Day at 2 p.m. Saturday.
There will be giveaways, drawings and a meet-and-greet with "Star Wars" costumed characters.
Star Wars Reads Day is a national event that celebrates reading and the popular "Star Wars" movie series created by George Lucas. The event was created by Lucasfilm and its publishing partners.
This free event is suitable for all ages.

Rotary club plans Oktoberfest fundraiser
The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise will present its second annual Oktoberfest Extravaganza fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Pioneer Inn in Lahaina.
An authentic German buffet will be served along with music and dancing with an "oompah" band. There will also be a silent auction ending at 8 p.m. Tickets are $50 each.
Event proceeds will help the club continue to support programs and projects benefitting the community.

MHS Class of '78 announces reunion
The Maui High School Class of 1978 will have its 35th class reunion beginning at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at Tante's Island Cuisine in Kahului.
The cost for the event is $35 per person.
