A 30-year-old California man died Wednesday after he fell about 30 feet down a cliff onto rocks at Nakalele Point, a fire official said.
Police identified the man as Dominic Reginatto of Redding, Calif.
Napili and Lahaina firefighters, along with rescue personnel aboard the Fire Department's Air One helicopter, responded to Mile Marker 38 on Honoapiilani Highway after the 12:15 p.m. alarm.
Napili firefighters, who arrived first with medics, were directed to the blowhole area where the man had fallen, said Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga. He said attempts to revive the man began before emergency workers arrived.
Medics and firefighters took over, and the victim was airlifted by helicopter to a secured landing zone near the highway, Mainaga said.
The man was loaded into an ambulance, where he was pronounced dead, he said.
