Newly found native plants topic of talk
Rare plant expert Hank Oppenheimer will talk about newly found native plants at 7 p.m. Friday in the Mayor Hannibal Tavares Community Center's pool room annex in Pukalani.
Oppenheimer is the Maui Nui plant extinction prevention program coordinator. He will introduce the unique plants, their habitats, and the efforts to save and protect them.
The Native Hawaiian Plant Society is presenting the event in the meeting room next to the Upcountry pool and across the street from Foodland.

Meeting to finalize details of anniversary
A meeting to finalize details of Baldwin High School's 75th anniversary celebration this month will be held in the school's new library at 5 p.m. Monday.

Senior club to present bazaar Saturday
The Lahaina-Honolua Senior Citizens Club will hold its annual bazaar from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the West Maui Senior Center, 788 Pauoa St. in Lahaina.
There will be sushi, chow fun, baked goods, plants, clothing, and miscellaneous household items for sale. Anyone wishing to donate nonperishable items may do so from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, at the center's multipurpose room. Perishable items should be dropped off before 9 a.m. on the day of the bazaar.

The Pukalani Community Association will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Mayor Hannibal Tavares Community Center's downstairs meeting room.

The Baldwin High School Class of 1983 will have a reunion at 7 p.m. Oct. 26 at Tiffany's Bar & Grill in Wailuku.
This gathering coincides with Baldwin's 75th anniversary celebrations.

Italian American club to host picnic
The Italian American Club of Maui will host its 19th annual potluck picnic at Villa Vitale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at 45 Welina Place in Kula 200.
Attendees are asked to bring a potluck dish that serves five or more, and they are encouraged to participate in meatball and dessert cook-off contests. There also will be a bocce ball contest with prizes.
The club will provide soda, water, tea, juice, beer and wine. Persons interested in swimming in the large swimming pool must bring towels and swimsuits.
The picnic event is a family affair with children, grandchildren, friends and potential members welcomed.

Free outdoor movie at Hope Chapel
The Hope Chapel Children's Ministry in Kihei will present free outdoor movie night, Sunday, featuring a screening of "Rio."
The event will start at 4:30 p.m. with the movie beginning at sunset. No coolers are allowed, but food will be available for purchase. Craft table and games also will be set up. Attendees may bring beach chairs and blankets.

Children's center accepting applications
Maui Economic Opportunity's Kahi Kamali'i Infant and Toddler Center is accepting applications for services for children 12 months to 3 years old.
Services are provided behind the Cameron Center in Wailuku. Scholarships may be available for income-eligible families.
