Peter "Pete" Watson Baker of Wailuku, HI, died peacefully on October 3, 2013 at Maui Memorial Medical Center, surrounded by friends. Pete was born on December 7, 1943 in Columbus, Ohio.
After graduation from college in 1967, Pete entered the Peace Corp. and served in Liberia, Africa for two years. Pete then dedicated his life in service to his country and the children of Hawaii. He enlisted in the Army Corp in 1996 and was honorably discharge in 1971. Pete began his teaching career for the Hawaii Department of Education at Makaha Elementary School on Oahu until his transfer to Makawao Elementary School in 1986. He remained at Makawao Elementary School as a Third Grade Teacher and Reading Specialist until his retirement.
He is survived by his daughter, Leisa Ferguson-Baker of Kalama, Washington; brother, Christopher (Barbara) Baker of New York; and sister, Sara (Don) Michalak of New York.
A celebration of life will be held at the residence of John and Mary Costales, 595 Hana Highway in Paia (Tavares Bay), beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2013. Light refreshments will follow the service. Due to limited parking availability, please carpool if possible.
