After reading the letters in the Oct. 25 paper regarding gay marriage, I feel the need to weigh in.
First off, I don't want any part of a God who would torture his children forever for misbehaving.
I hope the Catholic letter writer knows that many non-Catholic believers think she is going to hell because she does not belong to their church. I am old enough to remember when, according to the Catholic Church, eating meat on Friday was a sin and then it wasn't. What happened?
Marriage in this country is a civil, not religious, institution. People can get married without going to church (as I did). But if people get married in a church without getting a civil license, under law they are not married.
The gay marriage law gives gay couples all of the rights and responsibilities of a straight couple, nothing more.
