HONOLULU - The University of Hawaii men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday, falling 95-88 to New Mexico State in a midnight tipoff Rainbow Classic game at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

The Aggies and Rainbow Warriors both went 2-1 in the season-opening tournament, as did Western Michigan, which claimed the title on the tiebreaker, least points allowed in the event.

Garrett Nevels scored 26 points for UH, and tournament MVP Isaac Fotu added 20 points and nine rebounds.

Daniel Mullings scored 21 points, and four other Aggies also reached double figures. New Mexico State shot 57.7 percent from the field and had a 40-27 rebounding advantage.

Hawaii will face Missouri on Saturday in Kansas City.
