Search suspended for passenger

November 16, 2013
The Associated Press

HILO (AP) - The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a woman reported overboard from a cruise ship in Hawaii.

The search for the 54-year-old woman was suspended Friday. Crews searched more than 10,000 square miles since Wednesday.

Princess Cruises spokeswoman Julie Benson said witnesses and security video confirmed that the American passenger was "intentionally going overboard."

The cruise ship changed its course and searched for the woman in waters about 650 miles northeast of Hilo.

Benson says the ship was three days into a round-trip cruise from Hawaii to San Francisco.
