Mahalo for reminding our community about the challenges veterans face as they return to our island home (Today's Editorial, Nov. 10).
As store manager of Kahului Walmart, I'm proud to share that we have a long-standing commitment to support veterans and military families. Many work in the Maui store and at Walmart locations across the islands.
On Memorial Day, the company launched the Walmart Welcome Home Veterans Initiative that offers a job to any honorably discharged veteran within his or her first 12 months off active duty. So far, approximately 20,000 veterans have been hired through the Walmart Welcome Home Veterans Initiative, including 48 in Hawaii Walmart stores. We welcome further applications. Please feel free to stop by the store and ask about the process or visit walmartcareerswithamission.com.
Also, Walmart has a Military Family Promise that guarantees a job at a nearby store or club for all military personnel and military spouses employed at Walmart and Sam's Club who move to a different part of the country because they or their spouse have been transferred by the United States military. Details are at corporate.walmart.com/veterans.
I am honored not only to have the opportunity to employ and learn from our heroes here on Maui, but also to help support their efforts and families in every way I can.
