Man rescued after falling from lookout
A 63-year-old man was rescued by firefighters Saturday evening after falling 20 to 30 feet off of the Pali lookout in West Maui, fire officials said.
Wailuku and Kahului firefighters reported to the area at 6:52 p.m. and found the man about one-quarter mile south of the lookout and 25 feet below, Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga said. He said that the man complained of sore ribs and back pain.
Rescuers provided first aid and secured the man in a basket, Mainaga said.
"It was a tough extrication due to the topography. It took 12 personnel to walk him out over very rocky terrain and elevation," Battalion Chief Val Martin said in a news release.
Medics transported the man to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he was in stable condition, Mainaga said.

A 56-year-old woman was airlifted from Puu Olai at Makena on Sunday afternoon after she was unable to make her way down from the mountain, fire officials said.
The woman slipped and sustained minor injuries to her hips and legs, according to Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga. She also was reporting exhaustion.
Fire crews from Wailea and Kahului responded to the 3:03 p.m. call, made their way to the victim, assessed her condition and prepared her to be airlifted, Mainaga said. She was airlifted safely to a secured landing zone.
The woman, a resident of Cincinnati, refused transport to Maui Memorial Medical Center.
