A free seminar on the latest industry-standard photovoltaic installation practices will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at Maui Electric Co., the company announced.
The seminar is for solar system installers and inspectors. The featured speaker will be national PV system expert and author William "Bill" Brooks, principal engineer of Brooks Engineering. He has more than 25 years of experience in designing, installing and evaluating grid-connected PV systems.
MECO is hosting the event at its Kahului office at 210 W. Kamehameha Ave.
Solar installers and inspectors can reserve a space by sending email to email@example.com or calling 871-8461, ext. 2445.
"Maui has experienced amazing growth in rooftop solar installation in the past few years," said Steve Rymsha, supervisor of renewable energy projects at MECO. "As we continue to help more of our customers take advantage of solar power, we must do so safely and responsibly, and working closely with our solar contractors and inspectors is a key component."
Offering PV training to more than 12,000 installers and inspectors nationwide and abroad, Brooks will review the best PV installation practices in the industry and the current national electric code, the regionally adoptable standard for the safe installation of electrical wiring and equipment in the United States.
Brooks has written several widely used technical PV manuals. His recent publications include the "Expedited Permit Process for PV Systems," "Field Inspection Guidelines for PV Systems" and "Understanding the CalFire Solar PV Installation Guidelines." He also is a contributing writer for articles in Photon and SolarPro magazines.
As an active participant on many PV codes and standards panels, Brooks is involved in the development of national and international solar system safety codes and standards, including PV utility interconnection standards and national electrical codes on PV systems.
Brooks holds bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering from North Carolina State University. He is a registered professional mechanical and electrical engineer.
