The Seabury Hall 4-H Dirt Devils won their sixth consecutive title at the Oct. 29 Maui Conservation Awareness Program’s Land Judging Contest. The team consisted of adviser Daryl Yamada (from left) and students Paxton Malek, Tyler Kiyota, Corin Nishimoto and Kaitlyn Yamada. Students from five Maui high schools put their knowledge of soil to the test. Second place went to the Kamehameha Schools Maui team, and third place went to the St. Anthony Junior Senior High School team. Students from Baldwin, King Kekaulike and Maui high schools also participated in the competition. The contest, a partnership between the Maui Soil and Water Conservation Districts, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service and the University of Hawaii Cooperative Extension Service, is the culmination of the Conservation Awareness Program.
