Two Warriors assistants won’t return

December 11, 2013
The Maui News

University of Hawaii football coach Norm Chow announced Tuesday that defensive coordinator Thom Kaumeyer and linebackers coach Tony Tuioti will not return next season.

"This is a cruel and difficult profession," Chow said in a statement released by the school. "Thom and Tony are friends of mine and good coaches and good men who worked extremely hard these last two years. I thank them and wish them well as we all move forward."

The Rainbow Warriors, who finished 1-11, allowed an average of 38.8 points and 495 yards per game.

Hawaii avoided the second winless season in program history by beating Army 49-42 in the season finale Nov. 30. In 1998, UH went 0-12.

Chow said an immediate search will begin to fill the two spots and the vacant offensive coordinator position.

Chow served as offensive coordinator after Aaron Price was dismissed prior to the season.
