1938 - Maui scurried toward the climax of the Christmas season this week with more than its usual zest. Merchants were doing a rushing business, and mother and father and sister and brother went from store to store in search of the appropriate gift.

1963 - Filipino communities in the Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Co. area will hum with activities during the weekend with patriotic programs commemorating the 67th anniversary of the death of Dr. Jose Rizal, patriot and national hero of the Philippines. Heading the list of events will be an elaborate coronation and program, sponsored by the United Sons and Daughters of Ilocano regions in the Puunene Gym.

1988 - Dedication ceremonies were held for Skybridge simultaneously on Maui, Molokai and Lanai. Use of the system has already begun, with 127 students on Maui, 38 on Molokai and 14 enrolled on Lanai.

2003 - A free family turkey dinner for anyone who wants a friendly place to go on Christmas Day will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Baldwin Beach Park pavilion. The communitywide event is being coordinated by Mark Raaphorst, owner of Ding King's Fiberglass Works, and computer consultant Mark Norton. The dinner they put together last year served 400.
