Hawaii men rally past Nebraka-Omaha

Isaac Fotu finished with 26 points and eight rebounds as the University of Hawaii men's basketball team rallied past Nebraska-Omaha 77-73 on Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.

Fotu went 8-of-11 from the field and 10-of-12 from the foul line for the Rainbow Warriors (11-3), who won for the ninth time in 10 games. Garrett Nevels added 12 points and Keith Shamburger had 10.

Caleb Steffensmeier's two free throws put Nebraska-Omaha up 65-56 with seven minutes, 44 seconds remaining.

Shamburger made two free throws with 53 seconds left to put Hawaii up 73-72.

Nevels sealed the victory by hitting two free throws with eight seconds remaining for the final margin.

John Karhoff had 15 points and Justin Simmons added 14 for the Mavericks (10-5).

The Rainbow Warriors open Big West Conference play with road games against Cal State Northridge on Thursday and UC Riverside on Jan. 11.
