"Chinese Year of the Horse" is the theme for this year's children's art contest is sponsored by the Maui Chinese Cultural Society in collaboration with the Department of Education.
The contest is open to all Maui children in kindergarten to 12th grade.
There is no fee to enter. Students are allowed one entry each, which will be judged in four divisions. Monetary prizes will be awarded per division.
All accepted entries must be original artwork in two-dimensional images from the current school calendar year.
Entries may be in mediums of drawing, painting, chalk with fixative spray, oil pastels, paper cuts and collage of original design.
Computer generated art must be originally created by using a drawing application, no images can be clip art, copied or from the Internet. No printed images or photography will be accepted.
Entries are to be 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches with student identification labels on front and back of the entries.
Judges for the contest are Sid Yee, Michel James and Phil Sabado.
The deadline to submit entries is Jan. 27. Entries may be sent to Maysie Tam, Lokelani Intermediate School, 1401 Liloa Drive, Kihei 96753.
The artwork will be on display at the the 16th annual Maui Chinese New Year's Festival at the Maui Mall on Feb. 1.
Winners will be announced during the festival at 10:30 a.m.
