The University of Hawaii men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker to Cal State Northridge 79-78 on Saturday at Northridge, Calif.
A 3-pointer by the Rainbow Warriors' Keith Shamburger with 1 minute, 54 seconds remaining capped the scoring.
Hawaii had four chances to tie or take the lead, but missed a 3-pointer, the front end of a one-and-one, a layup and a jumper at the buzzer.
Stephen Maxwell had 24 points and 10 rebounds and Aaron Parks finished with 19 points for the Matadors (10-7, 2-0, Big West).
Garrett Nevels scored 19 points, Christian Standhardinger had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Isaac Fotu finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Rainbow Warriors (11-5, 0-2), who trailed 70-57 with nine minutes left.
Northridge made 28-of-31 free-throw attempts, while UH hit 17-of-21.
The?Rainbow Warriors will face UC Riverside at home next Saturday.
