I found the Jan. 13 story about the invasive axis deer very interesting.
I have been aware of this problem for a long time and have always wondered why, if it is such a disturbance, there is not venison readily available in stores and restaurants. These guys should be on as many menus around the island as ono or mahi.
It's a natural, renewable food source. It will protect the other natural resources of Maui's farms and ranches and can be served in many different ways - from burgers to jerky.
New jobs would be created from the hunting to the processing and the shipping. Hunting tours could eventually become a recreational activity similar to fishing charters.
