Malek Jaziri and Kento Takeuchi reached the third round of qualifying as the Royal Lahaina Challenger got underway Sunday at the Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch and Royal Lahaina Resort.
Jaziri and Takeuchi each received first-round byes. Jaziri, the top-seeded qualifier, then defeated Takura Happy 6-2, 6-0, and Takeuchi advanced with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ikaika Jobe.
Three Americans won first-round matches - Alexios Halebian defeated Hsin-Han Lee 6-2, 6-1, Jared Donaldson was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Rick Kepler and Andrew Carter beat Takao Suzuki 6-2, 6-3.

Rong Ma reached the second round with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Eddie Acuna, and Jaume Martinez Vich was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Alan Chang. Chieh-Fu Wang won the only match to go to a tiebreaker, defeating Mattis Wetzel 6-3, 7-6 (4).
In today's first matches, Donaldson is to face Nicolas Meister, Wang will play Dean O'Brien and Carter will take on Cesar Ramirez.
Play in the main draw is scheduled to begin Tuesday. Yen-Hsun Lu has the top ATP ranking of the main-draw players, at No. 53. Lu, who has been ranked as high as 33rd, reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals four years ago, and has earned $2.9 million in singles and doubles play in his career.
