Mildred Raines Basinger, 96, of Waiehu, Maui passed away on January 17, 2014 at Hale Makua, Kahului. She was born on February 5, 1917 in Fruitvale, Tennessee.
Burial will be in Bells, Tennessee. Borthwick Norman's Mortuary assisted with arrangements.
Mrs. Basinger moved to Washington, D.C. in 1941 beginning a 32-year career on Capitol Hill, working for Senator Kenneth Douglas McKellar, (D-TN), other congressmen and in the Office of the Doorkeeper, William M. "Fish Bait" Miller.
She lived in Jackson, Tennessee after retiring and moved to Maui, Hawaii in 1999.
She is survived by son, Rex H. (Alexa Betts) Basinger, Jr., brother, Cortez Raines of Minneapolis, MN and sister, Rosemary Raines of Chattanoga, TN.
Mrs. Basinger was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Belle Marcom Raines, 2 brothers, James Clifton Raines and William Robert Raines and sister Beryl Raines Nelson.
Mildred loved world travel, collecting antiques and her Great Dane "Hamlet".
