State Sen. David Ige of Oahu on Thursday introduced a bill that would make an appropriation to restore funds to athletic programs in state public schools.
The bill, also supported by Sen. Michelle Kidani of Oahu, would increase staff for school sports as well.
The bill does not designate an amount of money or number of positions.
Ige, the chairman of the Senate Ways and Means Committee, said in a news release: "During the time of the 'Great Recession,' the athletic programs at public schools have borne much of the brunt of the budget cuts made in education. This measure will help to provide additional resources to assure the development and safety of our high school athletes."
