Olamana Eleogram of Hana won his round-of-64 heat during the Volcom Pipe Pro on Monday on Oahu's North Shore.
Eleogram had a two-wave total of 10.63. Oahu's Fredrick Patacchia was second with a 10.10, Brazil's Bino Lopes placed third with a 9.07 and Hana's Dege O'Connell was fourth with a 5.90.
The top two surfers from each heat advanced to the next round of the Association of Surfing Professionals five-star event.

Also advancing was Lahaina's Dusty Payne, who placed second in his heat with a 9.10. Brazil's David do Carmo won with an 11.10.
Eleogram and Payne will be matched in the same round-of-32 heat.
Haiku's Kai Barger and Hana's Hank Gaskell had their round-of-64 heats postponed.
Maui surfers who failed to advance Monday out of the round of 64 were Kuau's Billy Kemper (third, 5.17) and Paia's Ian Gentil (fourth, 3.64).
Earlier Monday, in the round of 96, Gaskell won his heat with an 11.84, and Barger also finished first with a 9.60.
Haiku's Tanner Hendrickson. who was in the same heat with Barger, and Ian Walsh were eliminated Monday in the round of 96.
The contest's top eight finishers from Hawaii will earn spots in December's Pipe Masters.
