Mildred "Millie" M. Whitney, 79, passed away on January 18, 2014. She was born on September 25, 1934 in Honolulu. A memorial service over urn will be held for Millie on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Po'okela Church in Makawao. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m.; service will begin at 10 a.m. followed by a luncheon in the church hall. Millie was a Sales Manager with World Book Encyclopedia; she also was a children's librarian at Kahului Library. Millie enjoyed singing and playing piano, swimming, bamboo pole fishing and writing haiku poetry and children's stories. She held a Master's Degree in Library Science, and was a graduate of the Honolulu Bible Training School. Millie was predeceased by her husband, Dr. A. Sheldon Whitney, and is survived by her son, Mark Whitney; daughter, Lois Whitney; sister, Lois Mark; granddaughters, Christiana and Kayla Bisquera; and numerous cousins, in-laws and friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions will be accepted at the service for International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES), Hospice Maui and American Heart Association.
