Isle, MACC hold ‘grand’ place in artist’s heart

February 11, 2014
The Maui News
Kaulana Kanekoa sings with his band, Kanekoa, and ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro on Saturday night at the Castle Theater at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. Shimabukuro joined the local electric-ukulele band for an encore rendition of “Another Brick in the Wall” by Pink Floyd. After the performance, Shimabukuro set up in the courtyard and greeted fans, signed autographs, talked story and posed for photos for more than an hour. Shimabukuro is in the middle of a national tour and spoke several times during his performance about the special place that Maui and the MACC have in his heart. He has been touring in support of his latest album, “Grand Ukulele.”
