Yoshiaki “Sharkey” Ogata, 85

Yoshiaki "Sharkey" Ogata, 85, of Hilo, Hawaii, died Feb. 13, 2014 at Hilo Medical Center.

No services. Ashes will be scattered at a later date. Family requests no koden (monetary gifts) and no flowers.

Dodo Mortuary is assisting with the arrangements.

Mr. Ogata was born on Aug. 27, 1928, in Puunene.

He was a retired assistant air traffic control chief for the Hilo Tower.

He is survived by daughters, Lea (Dell Kaneta) Kaneta-Ogata of Hilo, Hawaii, Wendy (Claude) Takanishi of Honolulu, Oahu, Audrey Ogata of Hilo, Hawaii; brother, Dr. Roger (Agnes) Ogata, M.D. of Honolulu, Oahu; sisters, Yaeko Watase of Honolulu, Oahu, Yachiyo (James) Masuda of Kahului; and six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
