Hawaii’s Cooper tosses three-hit shutout

Matt Cooper pitched a three-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts as the University of Hawaii baseball team beat Pepperdine 2-0 on Wednesday at Les Murakami Stadium in the Big West opener for both teams.

Cooper (2-0) didn't issue a walk and hasn't allowed a run in 21 innings this season.

Conner George had a sacrifice fly in the sixth and Marc Flores had a run-scoring double in the eighth for the Rainbow Warriors (5-4).

Matt Maurer (0-1) pitched 6 2/3 innings for the Waves (6-2).
