Hawaii men lose close one

The University of Hawaii men's basketball team dropped a 63-61 decision to Long Beach State on Thursday in Long Beach, Calif.

The 49ers' Travis Hammonds hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with eight seconds remaining to cap the scoring.

Keith Shamburger missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer for the Rainbow Warriors, who fell to 19-9 overall and 8-6 in the Big West.

Christian Standhardinger had 17 points and 11 rebounds for Hawaii.

Tyler Lamb finished with 18 points for the 49ers (13-14, 9-4).
