The Maui Filipino Chamber of Commerce Foundation recently announced the availability of student scholarships.
Several $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors who will be graduating in 2014. The foundation will also award one $1,000 scholarship to a student enrolled in the Maui Culinary Academy at the University of Hawaii Maui College.
Applicants will be selected on the basis of their academics, college entrance exams, activities, awards and honors, a short essay, financial need and letters of recommendation. The college-level scholarship will be selected on similar criteria.
The Maui Filipino Chamber Foundation raises funds for the high school scholarship program through its annual scholarship golf tournament, which is scheduled for March 15 at The Dunes at Maui Lani. Since 1995, the Maui Filipino Chamber has awarded scholarships to 102 graduating high school seniors and two students at the Maui Culinary Academy.
The scholars will be presented during the Maui Filipino Chamber's Gintong Pamana Leadership and Scholarship Awards scheduled for June 18 at the Maui Beach Hotel.
Applications are available online at www.mauifilipinochamber.com and must be postmarked by March 31. Graduating high school seniors may also contact their principal or their senior class counselor for copies of the application.
