Esmenia Sumoba Paranada, 87, of formerly from Kohala and Hilo, died on February 14, 2014 at Hilo Medical Center.
She was born in Bario Cal-layan, Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, Philippines on November 19, 1926.
She was the eldest among seven children. She was a graduate of Rosary College in Vigan City, Philippines and a Catechism Teacher; she also was a retired housekeeper for the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and an Adult Residential Care Home Operator in Hilo. She was a member of the Big Island Care Home Association, Big Island Filipino Community Association and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.
Visitation will be held on March 13, 2014 (Thursday) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Wake service to begin at 6:00 p.m. and also on March 14, 2014 (Friday) at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo, Visitation from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.; Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park (Ilima Section).
Casual attire requested.
She is survived by sons, Leandro Lee (Patty Kamau) Paranada of Hilo, Edgar (Ernestine) Paranada of Graham, Washington and Emerson (Lolita) Paranada of Kona; brother, Ruperto (Octavia) Sumoba of Hawaii; sister, Helen (Cresencio) Sapla of Hawaii; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
