The University of Hawaii baseball team scored twice in the first inning but lost 3-2 to Texas on Friday in Austin, Texas, in the opener of a four-game series.
Juliene Jones and Jordan Richartz hit back-to-back RBI singles in the top of the first inning for the Rainbow Warriors (6-7), who were held to three hits the rest of the way.
The Longhorns (11-3), ranked 10th in the nation by Baseball America, scored twice in the fourth, and Jacob Felts' single in the eighth brought in the game's final run.
Hawaii's Matt Cooper (2-1) had his scoreless streak to begin the season end at 24 2/3 innings. He allowed three runs in 7 1/3 innings altogether as UH suffered its third loss in four games.
Travis Duke (1-0) got the final two outs of the eighth for Texas, and John Curtiss pitched a hitless ninth for his first save.
The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader today.
