The University of Hawaii men's volleyball team twice rallied from a set down against UC Irvine before losing 25-20, 17-25, 25-15, 15-25, 18-16 on Sunday at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
The Rainbow Warriors, tied with the Anteaters for eighth in the American Volleyball Coaches Association rankings, led 16-15 in the final set, but kills by Jeremy Dejno and Connor Hughes were followed by Sinisa Zarkovic's match-ending error.
Zarkovic finished with 19 kills for UH (11-8, 9-7 Mountain Pacific Spots Federation). Brook Sedore had 17.
The Rainbow Warriors lost a second straight home match for the first time since falling to UCLA and Long Beach State in November.
Dejno had 21 kills for Irvine (13-8, 10-7), and Zack La Cavera added 13.
Hawaii is to play at Stanford on Friday and Saturday.
