1914 - The Saint Patrick Day dance and basketball game was a great success and a large crowd attended the function. The Waihee girls defeated the Wailuku girls by a score of 39 to 19.

1939 - Seizure of Maui County automobiles that still bear their 1938 licenses will be started by police Monday. J. Pia Cockett, county treasurer, reported that at the deadline Tuesday, 6,082 licenses had been paid. Of that number, 4,466 were passenger cars and 1,616 were trucks.

1964 - If all goes well, the Kaanapali resort development should have a new twin six-story hotel before the end of the year. According to the owners, the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel will be constructed and operated on 10.3 acres of Site 3, Kaanapali Beach.

1989 - Maui restaurants are certainly an eclectic bunch. La Familia in Wailuku serves its takeout Mexican food in plastic Japanese bento boxes. And Suda's Store in Kihei recently opened a pizza shop. One local-style pizza is topped with char sui, Spam, onions, tomatoes and cheese.

2004 - The Maui Fresh Fruit Store in Haliimaile, where the small staff means operations are on an honor system, will close on Friday. The Haliimaile facilities were too far off the visitor track to justify them, Maui Pineapple Co. President Brian Nishida said.
