UH loses series opener against Irvine

The University of Hawaii baseball team lost its series opener against UC Irvine 7-1 on Friday at Les Murakami Stadium in Honolulu.

Matt Cooper (3-2) allowed six runs - three earned - in 6 1/3 innings for the Rainbow Warriors (14-14, 2-2 Big West). He struck out two batters and walked three.

Austin Wobrock had two hits and an RBI and Marcus Doi also had two hits for Hawaii.

Andrew Morales (6-0) pitched 7 1/3 shutout innings and Matt Fielding got the last four outs for the Anteaters (19-10, 3-1).

Jerry McClanahan and Kris Paulino each drove in two runs.
