Rainbow Warriors drop fifth consecutive game

April 13, 2014
The Maui News

The University of Hawaii baseball team lost its fifth straight game Saturday, falling 4-3 to Cal Poly at Les Murakami Stadium in Honolulu.

The Rainbow Warriors (14-18, 2-6 Big West) scored in the bottom of the eighth inning to get within two, and added a run in the ninth on a two-out error by Mustangs second baseman Mark Mathias, but Reed Reilly then entered the game and struck out Juliene Jones with two runners on base.

Mathias hit a pair of doubles for Cal Poly (29-5, 7-1), and scored a run.

Bryan Granger (1-0) got the win in relief, and Reilly recorded his seventh save.

Hawaii's Scott Kuzminsky (3-4) allowed four runs - three earned - in 6 2/3 innings.

The teams are scheduled to finish their four-game series today.
