Arrest in abuse and endangerment case
A 27-year-old Kahului man was arrested on charges that he injured his girlfriend and endangered their child when he used a box to shatter a car window while the two were in the vehicle last week, police said.
Bail was set at $7,200 for Gerson Phillip. He was charged with abuse, second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, second-degree assault and first-degree criminal property damage.
The incident occurred at 12:45 p.m. April 15 when Phillip's 31-year-old girlfriend confronted him at Kuihelani Highway and Puunene Avenue, said Lt. Derrick Lopez of the Criminal Investigation Division. He said Phillip picked up a small wooden box and used it to shatter the driver's side window, causing shards of glass to cut the woman's arm while she sat in the driver's seat.
The couple's 4-year-old daughter also was in the car, sitting nearby, Lopez said.
Phillip was arrested Monday morning and charged.
