Bridge only as strong as its weakest noodle

May 6, 2014
The Maui News
Carden Academy of Maui 5th-grader Sunny Diller, 10, prays for tough macaroni as teammate Leah McGregor, 10, adds sand to a bucket suspended from their bridge made of pasta noodles during the “Bridge-a-roni” portion of Saturday’s Elementary Science Olympiad Tournament. The girls said their bridge was made of fettuccine, penne, rigatoni and spaghetti noodles, as well as glue from a hot gun. It held 16.2 pounds before cracking, resulting in the girls’ first-place finish in the tournament held at Pomaikai Elementary School in Kahului.
