ST. LOUIS (AP) - The St. Louis Cardinals recalled second baseman Kolten Wong from Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday and demoted Greg Garcia, his former University of Hawaii teammate.

The 23-year-old Wong opened the season as the Cardinals' starting second baseman. He was batting .225 when he was demoted April 27.

At Memphis, Wong hit .344 with two home runs and 10 RBIs in 15 games with five steals in five attempts. He was 4-for-5 with four RBIs against Round Rock on Tuesday.

Wong was unavailable for Wednesday's game against the Chicago Cubs because of a stomach illness.

Garcia, an infielder, was sent to Memphis. He was 2-for-10 with two runs and one RBI in seven games for St. Louis.
