Sprucing up the Banyan Tree

May 21, 2014
The Maui News
Vili Ngalu (right) and Saia Mahe of Wailea Trees and Landscape Professionals use saws on extension poles to trim dead limbs and suckers from Lahaina’s famed Banyan Tree on Tuesday afternoon. Ngalu said they were pruning to make it safer for people to walk under the tree’s expansive limbs and to “leaf it up” atop the canopy. The tree was planted by William Owen Smith in 1873.
