Police are investigating the suspicious death of a man who was found on a dirt roadway in the Mapulehu area on Molokai's East End early Tuesday.
The man was identified as 20-year-old Koshari Kahikili of Mapulehu.
Someone traveling by moped at 6:45 a.m. saw Kahikili lying motionless on the roadway near Milepost 15 of Kamehameha V Highway and called police.
Police, medics and firefighters responded. Attempts to revive the man were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
An investigation showed that the man had sustained an apparent head injury, police said.
His body was to be flown to Maui, where an autopsy was to be done.
At Mana'e Goods & Grindz, Kahikili would sometimes order lunch at the store and had been there the day before his body was found, an employee said. "He was a nice boy, just recently moved here," said the employee, who did not want to be identified.
She said she remembered Kahikili from when he was 5 or 6 years old and living in remote Halawa Valley. His father and brother also live on Molokai, she said.
Court records indicate that Kahikili had been on the Big Island before moving back to Molokai last year.
