Maui Outdoor Circle announces luncheon
Maui Outdoor Circle will hold its annual luncheon meeting at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Kahili Restaurant in Waikapu.
Lucienne de Naie, vice chairwoman of the Sierra Club, Hawaii Chapter, will discuss "Dryland Forest of Wailea 670: Ancient Land, Modern Plans" at the luncheon.
Also on the agenda are a short presentation by the Maui Invasive Species Committee on little fire ants, updates on recent issues at Kanaha Beach Park, and discussions on wetlands and trees.
Maui Outdoor Circle will soon change its name to Maui Green & Beautiful, according to a news release from the group. The group's "vision of keeping Maui clean, green and beautiful" will remain the same.
The public is welcome to attend. The cost for buffet lunch is $30.

Desmond Yap & Friends will perform
Desmond Yap & Friends will perform from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday on the lawn fronting Baldwin Home Museum in Lahaina as part of the continuing Hawaiian Music Series.
The free monthly concert series is sponsored by Lahaina Restoration Foundation.
Chairs are limited. Concertgoers are welcome to bring blankets, mats and low beach chairs.

Recital to spotlight Maui piano students
Piano students of Rose Johnson will be performing a free recital beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at Iao Congregational Church.
Recent high school graduates Kamalani Eldredge, Kasie Takayama and Dasya Tavares will play a variety of classical and contemporary pieces.
Iao Congregational Church is located at 2371 W. Vineyard St. in Wailuku.
Hawaii Wildlife Fund to benefit from sales
The Hawaii Wildlife Fund will benefit from dinner sales at Dazoo restaurant on Monday.
A portion of dinner sales from 5 to 9 p.m. will be donated to the organization, which is devoted to the protection of Hawaii's marine ecosystem and inhabitants, according to a news release.
The event will include a signature drink and a silent auction.
Dazoo is located at 71 Baldwin Ave. in Paia.
State Rep. Justin Woodson will speak
State Rep. Justin Woodson will be the speaker at the Kiwanis Club of Maui meeting beginning at noon Thursday at Cary & Eddie's Hideaway Restaurant in Kahului.
The Central Maui Democrat will discuss the recently ended legislative session.
The meeting is open to the public. The cost of lunch is $12.

County to sponsor diabetes workshops
The Maui County Office on Aging will sponsor a "Better Choices, Better Health" diabetes self-management workshop series at Kaiser Permanente in Maui Lani.
This series will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on six Wednesdays, June 25 through Aug. 6. The program developed by Stanford University is said to help adults manage their diabetes as well as their overall health.
Included in the series are action plans for improving nutrition, exercise, relaxation, communication skills, medication management and more.
Participants will receive the book "Living a Healthy Life With Chronic Conditions" and a relaxation CD, "Time for Healing."
The cost is $10 for individuals age 60 and older and for caregivers of any age. The cost for individuals age 59 and younger is $35; scholarships are available.
